Workshop on virus & Disease Free Potato Seed Production through Tissue Culture

  The Giant Agro Processing Ltd. (GAPL) and Innovision Consulting Pvt. Ltd. jointly organized a workshop cum field day on 1st February 2010 at the GAPL Research & Development farm at Munshirhat, Thakurgaon. Fifty numbers of seed dealers and progressive farmers attended to see for themselves the intensive GAPL efforts to produce high quality disease free seed potatoes involving own Tissue Culture Laboratory. Net house farm land and intensely supervised contract growers as well.

The participated dealers & farmers came from Thakurgaon, Panchaghar, Dinajpur, Lalmonirhat, Nilphamary, Rangpur, Bogra, Joypurhat, Rajshahi and Munshigong districts. Limited local guests Mr. Sadruddin Imran, Chairman, Innovision Consulting Pvt. Ltd., Md. Dalil Uddin, Deputy Director, DAE, Thakurgaon, Md. Jaherul Islam, Upazila Agril. Officer, Thakurgaon, Prof. Dr. Bidhan Chandra Halder and Md. Hasanuzzaman, Associate Professor Hazi Md. Danesh Science & Technology University, Dinajpur, Sarder Md. Salahuddin, Join Director, BADC, Rajshahi, Mr. Prodip Kumer Gouh, Field Officer, SCA, Dinajpur joined to the workshop as a special guest.

At the very beginning Mr. Feroz M Hasan, Managing Director, GAPL while welcoming the participants and guests briefly narrated the company activities as planned of denoted to production, preservation and supply of disease free seed potatoes for the farmers of the country. He mentioned that GAPL supplying seeds under the brand name "Bangla Seeds" had been able to earn a notable position in the domestic seed market. He categorically stated that the GAPL values seed business in the nation in general and to the farmers in particular.

Mr. Feroz M Hasan thankfully mentioned about the Innovision support behind GAPL activities. The cooperation would go a long practicable way ahead the expected.

The participating farmers and seed dealers were very interested and inquisitive about the whole series of efforts and techniques and involved in producing high quality disease free seed potatoes through generations. The GAPL personnel explained how a tiny tissue taken from a healthy and promising source -potato passes through very strict and rigorous lab and field efforts to produce disease free seed potatoes without any deviation or degradation. The guests spoke highly of such an innovative and practical venture on the consciousness of the seed potato users and earn trust thereof. The program ended with a vote of thanks from the GAPL management.
